Bonnyton celebrates Jean’s retirement
RESIDENTS at Bonnyton House hosted a special surprise party on Friday for long standing chairwoman of the Friends of Bonnyton House, Jean Philip, as she stands down from her post.
Jean, first became involved with the Friends of Bonnyton House after the admission of her own mother 17 years ago. Since that time, as chair of the group, she has been instrumental in raising thousands of pounds of extra cash for the home to buy extra equipment and entertainments for the residents.
Speaking to the Times, Jean said: “I’ve been involved more or less since the house opened. My mother came in as a residents, and I had always been interested in raising money.
“I couldn’t give an exact figure, but we’ve raised many thousands of pounds. We just all get together and do our best for the house.”
Bonnyton owner Kenny Winton said that Jean’s effort over the years had been of enormous help to the home.
“Jean has been deeply involved for 17 years now, and she’s been a super chair of the Friends group. The funds she and the Friends have raised have gone towards so many things - gifts, outings, meals, benches and equipment for the residents. She’s a very organised lady, and we wish her all the best.
“The Friends do a lot of good work - they’re a great example of the town’s community spirit.”
