A LOCAL tourist attraction has reason to celebrate, after picking up an award at the Scottish ‘rural Oscars’.

Formartine’s, between Tarves and Methlick, won the ‘Scottish Champion’ award in the Countryside Alliances’ Rural Start-Up category.

The visitor centre - which includes a restaurant, shop, and outdoor areas - has already built up a reputation for fine food locally after opening less than a year ago.

Formartine’s was commended by Countryside Alliance director Jamie Stewart, who said that the competitions had been impressed by their site visit, and that the Tarves business was a worthy winner.

Formartine’s spokesman John Cooper said afterwards: “We were all absolutely delighted to be nominated for this award, and to go on to become the Scottish Champion is testament to the hard work & passion of the whole team at Formartine’s. We have had an incredible start and adding this Countryside Alliance Award to our trophy wall alongside our ‘Gold Green Tourism Award’ is a huge honour for us.”
