EN ROUTE: A Scania tanker ordered by Rix Petroleum (Scotland) Ltd to meet growing demand

NORTH-east fuel company Rix Petroleum (Scotland) Ltd is building on its 35-year history by expanding its operation in Aberdeen.

The business, based on Sinclair Road in the city, has invested a six figure sum in a new tanker as demand for diesel from the industry and commercial sectors across Aberdeenshire grows increases.

The move will see the business run three tankers out of its Aberdeen depot serving the region’s agricultural, domestic heating oil and industrial markets.

Rix Petroleum will also be expanding its workforce with the addition of a new driver once the tanker is delivered.

According to Ian MacGregor, director of Rix Petroleum (Scotland) Ltd, the business was established in Montrose 35 years ago and has been steadily growing ever since.

Seven years ago Rix Petroleum opened up a depot in Grangemouth and it established its Aberdeen operation just 18 months ago.

Mr MacGregor said: “Our business model has always been about working with the local community to give them the best service we possibly can, and managed, sustainable growth based on delivering our promises.

“That way we ensure when we establish a new depot we are there for the long haul, which we like to think gives our customers the confidence to rely on us. After all we employ local staff and live locally, so we are part of the community too.”

He added that the Aberdeen depot had been established to serve agricultural and domestic heating customers but rising demand from the city’s businesses now meant the firm needed to grow.

“We have seen a significant upturn in enquiries from businesses across all sectors,” he said.

“Initially we were able to fulfil that demand by making a few extra journeys each week but now we have no choice but to expand our fleet. It is great to see the business grow in this manner, long may it continue.”

The new truck is a six wheel Scania with a capacity of 20,000 litres and a laden weight of 26 tonnes.

It brings to 11 the number of tankers Rix Petroleum operates in Scotland.
