DONALD Trump’s lawyers have demanded a public inquiry into plans for a windfarm in Aberdeen Bay.
They have written to the Scottish Government claiming the 11-turbine development should be subject to the same scrutiny as his golf resort near Balmedie.
The Menie Estate project was examined by planners, a public inquiry and a Paliamentary hearing.
The billionaire has staunchly opposed the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), maintaining it would spoil the views from his championship links. He has halted further work at Menie.
In a letter to Marine Scotland, Mr Trump’s lawyers say: “The Scottish Government should leave no stone unturned to establish beyond any reasonable doubt whether or not there is an economic risk to the Menie resort arising from the current location of the proposed EOWDC.
“In the interests of natural justice, such scrutiny can only be properly carried out by a public inquiry into this issue, just as the Menie resort was subjected to a full public inquiry.”
They add that the Trump Organisation will pursue “all legal remedies” available if an inquiry is not held.
The tycoon paid a flying visit to his Aberdeenshire course earlier this month and declared there would be no let up in his opposition to the windfarm.
His warning came after four statutory bodies confirmed they had withdrawn their objections following discussions with the developers - a consortium of Vattenfall, Technip and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group.
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), the Ministry of Defence, National Air Traffic Services (NATS) and RSPB Scotland lifted their opposition to the project after receiving assurances over their concerns.
The objections were removed subject to a number of conditions to minimise impacts during construction and operation.
A decision by Marine Scotland on the windfarm is expected to be issued before the end of the year.
