Trump petition gathers pace
AN OPPONENT of Donald Trump’s golf resort in Aberdeenshire is hoping to gather around 2,000 signatures for a petition calling for a public inquiry into the project.
David Milne, a neighbour of the tycoon at Menie, has renewed his call for people to sign up.
He has been given the go-ahead to proceed with the petition, which is seeking an investigation into the handling of the controversial golf development.
Mr Milne, who has been an outspoken opponent of the billionaire’s plans, wants a probe into local and national government involvement with the Trump Organisation.
Following discussions, the wording of the petition was accepted by Scottish Parliament officials.
Mr Milne expects it to be lodged with Holyrood’s Public Petitions Committee next month.
A Trump International spokesperson said last week the project had already gone through years of scrutiny and debate during a lengthy planning process, including a public inquiry.
The spokesperson added that Mr Milne had attempted this before and it had failed because there was no basis for it.
