Trump’s Menie hotel designs are unveiled

DONALD Trump has revealed the first images of the hotel complex he wants to build at his Aberdeenshire golf course.

But the tycoon warned that the initial phase of the project would not go ahead if plans for a windfarm development in nearby Aberdeen Bay are approved.

The three-storey hotel has been designed to maximise the views across the Balmedie dunes, course and beach.

Architects have taken their cues from the billionaire’s historic MacLeod House at Menie, and the main clubhouse on the international links.

However, the American billionaire has again fired a warning shot over the proposals for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), which would involve 11 turbines being build within view of the resort.

Mr Trump said: “This project will be among the finest hotels in Europe with breathtaking direct views of the North Sea and the Great Dunes of Scotland.

“It will provide additional construction work and employment opportunities but, most importantly, will establish the North-east as the premier global golf destination.

“When completed the hotel will be a tremendous asset for the entire region.”

He repeated his warning that the hotel development would only go ahead if the windfarm project is rejected.

Mr Trump said: “If plans for the ugly industrial wind turbines proceed, we would obviously not build
this hotel.

“The EOWDC application, if constructed where it is currently sited, would ruin the beauty of Aberdeen Bay, the surrounding coastline and would forever destroy tourism in the area.”

Pressure is growing on the Scottish Government to approve the offshore windfarm.

A total of 28 cross-party MSPs have signed a motion lodged by North East MSP Lewis Macdonald calling for the plans to be given the go-ahead.

The 140-bedroom hotel is the first phase intended for the Menie site. Proposals for additional accommodation are currently being designed and developed.

During last season, 10,000 people played the Trump links.
