On Patrol, With Inspector John McCluskey of Grampian Police

Inspector John McCluskey reports that over the Christmas Holiday period, Ellon and the surrounding villages had very few crimes relating to antisocial behaviour and drunkenness reported, this is particularly pleasing in a period when most pubs are much busier than usual.

Local officers carried out breath tests on all motorists they stopped over the festive period, all but one provided a negative breath test and as a result of that a local male has been reported for drink driving.

In Crime news, unfortunately three dwelling houses were broken into in the first week of the new year, all are isolated and near to the Craigdam area of Tarves, a quantity of power tools, electrical items and skiing equipment was stolen from the homes while the owners were away. If you saw anyone in the area of Tarves acting suspiciously or you see anyone near your neighbours property that you do not recognise, then challenge them or call the Police.

On the 2nd of January, a silver gents bike was stolen from outside a house Brentfield Circle in Ellon, is remains outstanding.

This weeks officers have recovered a number of bicycles in Balmedie in circumstances that lead us to believe they have been taken from homes in the village, are you missing a bike have you checked your garage to ensure it is secure.

If you have any information about any of these crimes please call the Grampian Police non emergency number 0845 600-5-700.

In early December, a vandalism to the Tarves Pharmacy was reported, three young males from the Tarves area have now been charged for this crime and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Please remember our ‘Lights Out, You’re out’ advice, particularly at this time of year;

Use Timer switches to bring on lamps and a radio to make it appear as if there is someone in.

Ensure all doors and windows are secure when you leave, and when you go to bed, and have good locks on your doors and windows.

Security Mark your property with a UV pen – take pictures of items you cannot mark and of expensive items.

Record the makes, models and serial numbers of your property.

If possible use security lighting to the front and rear of your property
