Young Musicians shine at EPC
ELLON Rotary Club sponsored the RIBI Young Musician of the Year Competition, which was held in Ellon Parish Church on January 28. All the entrants attend Ellon Academy.
Molly Lyall performed on the clarinet starting the performance, followed by Andrew Birse (violin), Sam Gove (saxophone), Kirsty Fraser (flute), Amy Fraser (oboe), Ashleigh Grant (violin) and Samuel Snell (acoustic guitar). Bethany Pace was the only vocalist, and sang Adele’s ‘Set Fire to the Rain’.’
Adjudicator, Mr Alistair Macdonald from the music department at Aberdeen University, was very impressed with the quality of the performances, but decided that Andrew Birse playing Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor Movement 3, and Danse Espagnole by Granados should be the winner.
Senior Vice-President Forbes Hamilton presented the instrumental trophy to Andrew and Bethany received the vocal trophy. Amy Fraser won the runner-up prize for her performance on the oboe, and all contestants received a certificate of participation.
Mr Drew Tulloch from Aberdeen and Morag Paton, the well known musician from Ellon, praised the performances, with a round of prolongued applause.
