A Slovakian couple who live in Ellon have been overwhelmed by the kindness of local people after the birth of their first son.

Slavo Sadlon (33) and Andrea Bilcikova (29), who live in the town's Tummel Road, celebrated the birth of baby Nicolas on August 15.

They were astonished at the response of the customers from the Tolbooth Bar – where Slavo works.

Slavo, who has lived and worked in Ellon for two years, said: "We were both delighted when Nicolas arrived, but truly overwhelmed by the generosity of the peole who use the Tolbooth."

He added: "The gifts and cards we have received prove any notion of Scottish people being mean is just nonsense. I would like to thank everyone who has given us a gift or a card. Andrea and I are both overwhelmed by the kindness accorded to us."

Young Nicolas is doing well and has already made his first appearance in the Station Road pub.
