AN ELLON couple who say the secret to marital longevity is "listening and understanding", has recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Mr and Mrs George and Olive Sinclair enjoyed their diamond day last Thursday by reminiscing on six decades of memories. George (82) and Olive (79) first met at a dance in Tarves when she was only 15 and he was 18 where they thoroughly enjoyed each ot
hers company. The rest as they say, is history.

Both are from large families, Olive is one of 17 children and George is one of ten. The couple has five children, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren - with a new arrival of a baby girl at the weekend.
George left school at 13 and worked at a small farm in Oldmeldrum. When Olive left school she worked in the office at Ledingham the Baker in Aberdeen.

First the couple lived at Kirkhill - just outside of Ellon, then moved to Byre Leask at Slains and finally onto Cairnstockie Farm in Arnage where they brought up their five children. The couple moved to Ellon in 1986.

When asked the secret to a long and successful marriage, George explained: "Listening and understanding, we have never had any big arguments - just little squabbles over the years."
George worked at the council for seven and a half years - but even as a retired man, he still gets up every morning to clean the litter from Gordon Park to keep it tidy.

Olive and George have enjoyed bowling together at Methlick Bowling Club - George plays at the Esslemont indoor bowling and is still keen to help to look after the greens at both Methlick and Tarves Bowling Club.

The diamond duo's home had many flower arrangements and an array of cards on the day - with one from Her Majesty, the Queen.
The celebrations are set to continue on Sunday at their daughter Elsie's home where they will enjoy a meal and catch up with all the family.

Councillor Isobel Davidson presented the couple with a bouquet of flowers and a fruit basket. She said: "I'd like to congratulate them on their long and happy time together. It is good to see them both fit and healthy - still being able to enjoy life."
