AN ADVENTUROUS explorer who has undertaken a number of extreme expeditions is making his way to Ellon Academy to deliver a presentation to pupils.
Craig Mathieson (39), is heading to the school today (Thursday) to address the children on exploration and climate change.

He will also be speaking at Aberdeen's Inspire building, on Beach Boulevard, tonight to raise sponsorship for and reveal det
ails of his next adventure – The Northern Lights Greenland Expedition.

This latest challenge will see Craig – who on past expeditions has tackled the most hazardous conditions to reach both the North and South Poles – kayak along the east coast of Greenland and visit Inuit settlements to establish environmental educational links between schools in the area and here in Scotland.

As part of the educational expedition, Craig and his team will provide the Inuit schools with laptop computers to allow them to run joint projects with Scottish schools.

Explaining the reasoning behind his latest adventure, Craig said: "Having lectured extensively for the past four years in Scottish schools on exploration and climate change, I feel we must 'make it real' for the kids and actually show them the impact global warming is having on Inuit children.

"In the future, we also want to take Scottish school children and their teachers to Greenland to further enforce the need to do something about climate change."

By day, Craig is a director of VAT services with Scotland's largest firm of independent chartered accountants and business advisors, Johnston Carmichael, and the firm – which is providing the laptop computers for the Inuit schools – has organised the fundraising event at Inspire.

Entry to the Aberdeen event is free, and will see Craig discuss his past experiences on previous expeditions, his hopes for his challenge in Greenland and explain how people can become involved with the project.

Attendees also have the opportunity to donate to The Northern Lights Greenland Expedition.
