HIGH achieving sports stars from Ellon Academy were last week recognised for their abilities.
The results of the School Colours Awards 2009 were revealed at a special ceremony held last Wednesday, November 18.
As an added bonus, local tennis star Claire Birnie was at the prize giving to congratulate the winners on their excellent year of sp
orting achievements.
Included in the roll of honour was Sam Lyon, who picked up his award for his supreme talent in athletics, achieving an upgrade to Full Colours with distinction.
Sam was this year selected for the Scottish Schools Team, competing in the Triple Jump discipline.
Meanwhile, Laura McIntosh was awarded with a netball upgrade, also with distinction. This year has been a successful one for Laura, after being chosen for the Under 17 Scotland squad, and then subsequently taking part in the Under 17 European Championships in Gibraltar. Additionally, Lucy Murison also successfully gained a Full Colours upgrade.
The other winners were as follows: Netball Full Colours: Lindsay Kerr (who also picked up the hockey Full Colours award); Cara Stickle and Catriona Fraser. Netball Half Colours: Krystyna Bell (plus School Sport Half Colours). School Sport Half Colours: Jennifer Taylor; Laura Duffin; Scott Cassie; James Collins; Emily Howie; Lauren Wilkie; Lauren Wilkie; Jayne Emery; Jillian Ward; Oliver Burton; Alick Ross. Rugby Half Colours: Callum Cruickshank; Fraser McWhirter. Football Half Colours: Andrew Smith; Scott Fowlie; Niall Murray.
