LAWRENCE Milne squash team were playing at home again this week up against their bogey team Banchory.
The Ellon team captain's talk was short and to the point: "We need all the points to stay on top!"

First on court this was Lawrence Milne no 3 Neil 'Figures' Smith. Neil was up against another Neil Young who's been round for a while and was going
to make life hard for Figures. The Banchory Neil took the first two games off the Lawrence Milne Neil, so the Ellon lad had some thinking to do, he got out his calculator and put in some figures in it and came up with "be the ball".

Whatever that means, but it worked. Ellon Neil came through with some good squash to win his match in five, well done Ellon team captain. Lawrence Milne 1, Banchory 0

Next up on court was Lawrence Milne number four this week; Phil the Slater. Phil was up against Banchory new boy Steve the badminton player. Phil ran away with the first game 15/7 and thought this was going to be an easy match.

However, Steve had his badminton skills up his sleeve this week and his racket around Phil's head. With a lot of grunting, which at times was off-putting, Steve won the next three games to win the match in a closely fought battle. Literally, Phil came off court worse for wear, with his ego hammered and bruising to his thumb and head. Lawrence Milne 1, Banchory 1.

Playing next was Lawrence Milne number one Chris 'player of the month' Gilbert, who was up against Banchory no 1 Keith Thomson who's been around playing for Banchory since time began. Chris won his first game 15/10 and after that there was no stopping him, winning the next two games and his match with a very good mixture of textbook squash 3/0 win. Lawrence Milne 2, Banchory 1.

Playing next this week for the match was Lawrence Milne no 2 Dentist Dave. Dave was up against the youngest member and loon of the Banchory squad Michael Boyne who had an impressive knock up. It looked like David was in for the long haul, Dentist Dave went on to win the first game 15/9 with Michael winning the next game 8/15 with some good squash. One game each, all to play for.

The third game was easier for David as the young Michael lost the plot. 15/6 - two games to David one to himself. The fourth game was tougher for David but with Michael still thinking about his losses in his gold shares this week. Dentist Dave went on to win the game and the match for the Lawrence Milne team with another brilliant display of squash. "Two 'Ls in brilliant" said David.Lawrence Milne 3, Banchory 1 Match won.

Last on court this week was Lawrence Milne no 7 Alan Taylor as Frankie Valentine was still in Coventry and Billy Basher got the trots, so we were told. Alan was up against Duncan Mitchell who was back from injury after two years, so they said. Alan won the first game and was looking good until Banchory lad had a word with his captain.

Between them they came up with a cunning plan, so the Lawrence Milne lad was now playing against two great minds with the total age of 108 years. Not good for Alan. Duncan managed to win the next in a closely fought game 14/16 to Banchory. After that it was downhill for Alan and he quickly cancelled his beef steak pie, as Duncan took the next two games to win the match.

Lawrence Milne 3, Banchory 2. Another win for the Ellon squad.
