ELLON United came home from Denmore with full points last weekend thanks to their 4-1 win over Hall Russell United.
Russell Ord deputised in goal for Ellon in the absence of the injured Richard Bowman, and Keith Reid retured from injury. A strong Ellon bench saw the return of Cammy Bruce, Atholl Cadger and Chris Huggins. Ellon dominated much of the first half poss
ession without managing to produce the cutting edge to make their possession count. It was not until they went behind to a second half Hall Russell free kick that they found the route to the goal, before eventually running out comfortable winners.
Ellon held the upper hand in the opening exchanges without producing the killer touch, and it was almost halfway through the first period before either goal suffered any real threat. Steve Gunn found Keith Reid, whose cross was met by Callum Stewart, but his effort went just wide. Two minutes later Russell Ord had to be on his toes to cut out a dangerous cross from Matthew Whitefield.
Ellon responded with Duncan Chalmers picking out Keith Reid, whose shot was saved by keeper Carroll. Ellon kept the pressure on with Matty Edmond and Keith Reid combining to force a corner, though the ball was eventually forced clear after a series of corners. The sheet remained blank at interval.
Ellon almost went ahead within a minute of restart. Keith Reid met a Ross Forsyth cross under severe pressure, only to see his header flash over the bar. Ellon were stung ten minutes into the second half when they conceded a silly free kick with full back Milne's shot ending up in the net.
The visitors squared matters minutes later when a deep free kick was headed back into the danger area. Carroll managed to parry the first attempt, but Duncan Chalmers moved in to head home the equaliser. Ellon found themselves in trouble from another free kick, this time a simple header coming back off the post into the arms of Russell Ord.
Ellon were unable to cash in on a great cross from Duncan Chalmers, but the visitors eventually went ahead in the 76th minute. Callum Annand released Chris Huggins, whose low cross had the home defence in all sorts of bother, with Atholl Cadger finishing off after a goalmouth scramble. Ellon went further ahead eight minutes later. Carroll managed to get his hands to another awkward cross from Chris Huggin, but the ball fell out to Cammy Bruce, who knocked it back into the path of Duncan Chalmers to drill home. Ellon wrapped up the scoring a minute later with Keith Reid getting just reward for for his afternoon's hard work. The striker beat his marker out wide and cut inside before shooting low beyond the keeper to cap a good day for the visitors.
