A very flat performance over far too much of the 90 minutes resulted in Ellon United going down 4-1 against Banks o' Dee on Saturday's Grill League Cup game at Spain Park.
United enjoyed a promising start and five minutes in it took a good block from G. McNamee to prevent Jim Ellis finishing off Keith Robertson's hold up play with keeper Forbes scrambling across to keep the ball from going behind a corner.

A good r
un from Brownhill ended tamely with his weak shot going wide.
United responded with Michael Fletcher meeting Keith Robertson's header on from Scott Robison's free kick first time – but his shot went well past.

Banks o' Dee moved straight up the field with Richard Bowman quickly out of his goal to clear.

The home side opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Brownhill drifted in unchallenged to score with a free header at the back post off a Turnbull free kick.

United had an escape minutes later when a poor clearance fell to Taylor who blasted the ball over.

Ellon equalised eight minutes before the interval and this time it was Banks o' Dee's turn to be punished for slack defensive work when Jim Ellis pounced on a poor clearance off a Derek Craigie cross.
United had a great chance to snatch the lead at the start of the second half. The Banks o' Dee defence completely misjudged a long kick out from Richard Bowman.

Derek Craigie latched on to the ball to send his first time lobbed header over the keeper only to see it drift wide of the post.
Banks o' Dee came very close to making United pay for its miss with Taylor's shot coming back out off the inside of the post.

But the home side did reclaim the lead in the 56th minute and United were found wanting again with Carstairs allowed in to score with another free header off a cross from the left.

With just over quarter of an hour of the second half gone United passed up the chancee of a second equaliser when Keith Robertson nodded a throw in from Michael Fletcher on to the back post area.
Ellon should have been able to force the ball home but its final effort lacked conviction and the ball was cleared for a corner.

Banks o' Dee extended their lead in the 73rd minute when United carelessly gave the ball away allowing Brownhill to run clear and drill past Richard Bowman.
White wrapped up the scoring three minutes from time when he reacted quicker than United to get on the end of a low cross and direct the ball into the far corner.

United complete the games in its Grill League Cup section next Saturday with a home game against neighbours Formartine United, and Graeme McBeath and his management team will be looking for a vast improvement on last weekend's display. The kickoff is at the Meadows at 2.30pm.

The wining numbers in Ellon United's weekly Lucky Six Draw were 1,2,3,5,8 and 13 and with no one picking the full se the prize money for next week's draw will be £1050 with the selection 6 from 19.
The winners of the £10 consolation prizes were L. Longmuir, G.Lawson, Aidan and E.Hocking.
