Lawrence Milne Decorators squash team were at home this week Playing Banchory. The captain said "we need all the points to keep us in the challenge for the top of the league". Easier said than done.
First on to court and playing number four for the Lawrence Milne team was Billy Basher. Playing for Banchory was Steve Craig. The last time Steve played at Ellon, Phil came off worse for wear after Steve used Phil as the ball, (he kept hitting him).

First game went to the Banchory player 6/15. Second game Billy came out fighting from his corner, (he's used to that). Billy won the game 15/10 with some good volleying of the ball. Third game and Billy started to Knock Steve around the court to take control of the match. Billy Basher was playing well now and was starting to move around the court like a butterfly, but had the sting of a bee. The game went to the Ellon player 15/7. In a tighter fourth game, Billy carried on and was pushing Steve around the court, try as the Banchory player did he didn't have the answer to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. Billy won the game 15/12 and his match 3/1. Well played Billy.

Lawrence Milne 1 - Banchory 0

Next up on court for Lawrence Milne was Phil the Slater playing at number five. Phil was playing Ken Black for Banchory. Kens a wily old fox. This wasn't going to be pretty.
On with the first game. Phil ran off with the first game and looked like his old self. He went on to win the game 15/7. In the next game Ken (wily old fox) Black was pushing hard now and moving the Ellon player around the court. That wasn't good for Phil, but he dug into the game and at 14/14 Phil made two mistakes; one was arguing with the marker about a bad call and the second was, after all that, talking to the marker. He was out of breath. The game went to the Banchory player 14/16. In a tight third game, Phil was blowing hard, knowing he needed this game. That didn't help, but he pushed on. The game got to 13/13, then Ken played two good shots to win the game 13/15, 2/1 to Banchory. That wasn't good for the Ellon player. In the fourth game Phil was looking pretty knackered, but carried on. Again, the game went to 14/14. Phil just needed two more points to win the game, but that wasn't going to be easy as Ken only needed two points to win the match. The Mellon player was trying for everything, but Ken wouldn't give in. The game went up to 21/21. By now both players were making mistakes and were looking very tired. Somehow, Phil managed to win the next two points to win the game 23/21, so that was two all in games, but after that long game Phil was slowly dying, yet had to drag himself back onto the court for the fifth game.
Last game and Phil wasn't getting anything. Ken was running off with the game. Phil kept trying but he hadn't got anything left, and so, Ken won the game 5/15 and the match 2/3 to Banchory. Not good for Phil. Back to bed.
Lawrence Milne 1 - Banchory 1
Next up was Lawrence Milne number two Neil figures. Neil seems to like giving the first two games away and making it hard for himself, and tonight was no exception to the rule as he gave Keith Thomson the first two games 11/15 to Banchory. Neil looked at these figures hard and said that it didn't add up. These accountants.
Neil went back onto court and started to play some good squash and cover the court well. He played some good drop shots which were up for the first time in the match. He went on to win the next two games 15/10 and 15/6, and thought his opponent was tired, but we think Keith was just having a rest. In the last game Keith was giving it everything now and Neil had no answer to his winning shots. The Ellon player lost the game 6/15 and the match 2/3 to Banchory.
Lawrence Milne 1 - Banchory 2
Playing next this week for the match was Lawrence Milne number 3 Dentist Dave. David was up against the loon from Banchory, Michael Boyne. The Banchory player always has a good warm up on court, but that's it. David's played him twice before and won both matches. David ran off with the first game with some great drop shot winners, 15/3. In the second game the loon found his game and was getting to everything David was drilling at him. The Banchory loon took the game 9/15. One apiece. In the third game dentist Dave took charge again, to win the game 15/9. In the fourth game David was playing some great shots and covering the court well. He came up with some good winning shots and extracted another win against the Banchory loon 3/1 to Lawrence Milne.
Lawrence Milne 2 - Banchory 2
Playing last again this week was Lawrence Milne number one, the man who delivers "and we needed him to tonight as its two all in matches" postman pat Chris G. Chris was up against Banchory number one Neil Young (was once).
In a good first game with both players playing well, Neil Young for Banchory won a close game 13/15. The second game Chris came out and took charge of the game and went on to win it 15/4. That's more like it. Third game and Neil was keeping up with the Ellon player and matching him on court shot for shots 13/13. Chris won the next two points with two great winning shots 15/13. In the next game Chris kept the pressure on the Banchory player with some good leg work to cover the court, but Neil wasn't giving up yet and levelled the game 12/12. Chris then delivered the final blow to the Banchory team to win the game 15/12, and most of all, the Match to the Lawrence Milne Team 3/2. Well played Chris.
Lawrence Milne 3 - Banchory 2, Another win for the Ellon squad.
