A Derek Craigie brace gave United a 2-0 lead at the interval while a Ritchie Whyte strike plus header to complete Craigie's header put the home side four up. A Morgan double and a late Ballard goal pulled the scoreline back to 4-3.

A slack cross field pass could have proved costly for United with less than a minute on the clock, but Hearts were unable to cash in and the home defence dealt with the threat. United responded with Derek Craigie laying the ball off to Scott Clark whose shot flew past the post.

Buchanhaven's Bruce almost broke clear but Kevin Anderson managed to get across to clear the danger at the expense of a corner.
Keeper Gatt made a fine save to turn a shot from Jim Ellis round the post before a chance for Hearts saw Lee Baxter on hand to clear off the line following a corner.

United went ahead with just under 20 minutes played. Gatt took off another good save to turn Ritchie Whyte's shot away for a corner but when Gary McNamara headed Cammy Bruce's cross back into the danger area Derek Craigie was there to head home.

Ellon came close to adding a second when a cross by Craigie was just missed by Cammy Ross. A positive response by Buchanhaven saw Richard Bowman save from McKechnie then Kevin Anderson forced to clear off the line following another corner.

United allowed Campbell to push forward unchallenged but the defender shot well wide. United keeper, Richard Bowman, almost got his name on the scoresheet, but his opposite number, Gatt, was just able to touch his long clearance onto the face of the bar.

Just before the interval United were caught napping waiting for the referee to allow a throw in to be taken. Hearts quickly taken throw almost paid off with Morgan's glancing header off Park's cross going behind off the post. Ellon hit back with Derek Craigie driving home Jim Ellis' lay off within a minute. Gatt denied the United striker a first half hatrick with another fine save from the striker's header off a Scott Clark cross.

Ellon pressed forward at the start of the second period with Jin Ellis moving on to pass from Kevin Anderson but sending his shot wide before United went 3-0 up.Ritchie Whyte found Cammy Bruce on the left and he cut inside before swinging the ball across for Derek Craigie to head home his third goal of the afternoon.

Buchanhaven striker, Morgan, converted a penalty to make it 4-2. Richard Bowman almost managed to prevent the visitors from cashing in on a weak clearance with a fine save to keep out the first try, but Morgan was on hand to shoot home his second. Ballard ran clear in the 90th minute to add Buchanhaven's third.
