Ellon man releases new book on the English Civil War

AN ELLON man is set to launch his first book, detailing the Scots contribution to the English CIvil War.

Alisdair McRae, of Portsoy Place, will launch ‘How the Scottish won the English Civil War’ at Better Read Books on Ythan Terrace on Saturday, June 4, and will be on hand between 1 and 3pm to sign copies and answer questions. The book will be available at an introductory discount price.

‘How the Scottish won the English Civil War’ details the contribution of the experienced, well trained and motivated Scots troops made to the conflict between Charles I and the English Parliament. Siding with the parliamentarians two years into the conflict, and later fighting on behalf of the Stuarts, the Scots troops made, Mr McRae argues, a decisive contribution to the way the war was fought, won and lost. He also argues that Scotland suffered higher attrition than even England, and that soldiers in the Scots Army were more likely to die of disease or starvation than they were from enemy actions.
