A New Deer playgroup which lost its funding two years ago, has continued to battle on.
St Kane’s Pre-School has now changed its status to a charity thanks to the playgroup committee which has been fighting for the future of the group.
The playgroup, which has been running for more than 40 years, has had Mrs Eileen Morrice working for them for the last 30.
Newly-appointed chairperson, Rhea Westmacott, has been there for more than ten years. Despite losing funding, the playgroup has held fundraisers and received donations from local businesses.
The local community has also given a helping hand, undertaking bag packs, discos and coffee mornings.
Rhea told us: “They have graciously given their hard earned money and we can never thank them enough for their money or their support, especially in the current economic climate.”
Earlier this year the playgroup was given a boost and told that it was awarded their funding back, starting from January 2014.
The playgroup still have to make it through the remainder of 2013, so on Saturday, September 7 it is hosting an evening with the wonderful Toni and Ziggy.
Rhea said: “This promises to be filled with lots of music, fun, singing and dancing. They are a highly popular duo in the North East and we cannot wait to party with them at New Deer Public Hall.”
Tickets priced £10 are on sale from Lisa Benson (01771 644793) and Rhea Westmacott (01771 613338).
