THE third and final adult-race sponsor for Run Garioch 2013 was revealed at a launch at the Garioch Sports Centre on Tuesday (February 5).

Award-winning property developer Dandara joins Specsavers Inverurie (10K) and Accord Energy of Aberdeen (½ Marathon) as the new sponsor of the 5K.

Race Director Eric Simpson said: “I am delighted that Dandara have entered into a partnership with Run Garioch as our new 5K sponsor. Their valued financial support will allow us to launch a community initiative within Aberdeenshire to encourage all Jog Scotland clubs and local secondary schools to participate in the event.”

Details of these initiatives were also released on Tuesday. Jog Scotland groups bringing a minibus of JS members to take part in the 5K (10–20 runners) are eligible for a payment of £100 towards their costs; those bringing a coach (21+ runners) are eligible for a £150 contribution. Reserved coach parking is also included in the offer, all courtesy of the sponsor; applications are limited and must be made by March 11 to info@rungarioch.co.uk. Gillian Roberts of Dandara said: “Run Garioch is a fantastic festival and we are delighted to support this year’s 5K. We hope that this offer will enable more Jog Scotland members to take part in what promises to be the best Run Garioch yet.”

Of youth involvement in the race Active Schools Coordinator and runner Gareth Jenkins said: “I really look forward to promoting the Dandara 5K, especially among secondary schools. A lot of young people think that the distance isn’t achievable, but it is, especially with six weeks to go. We’ve promoted the event heavily in Oldmeldrum and Inverurie and hope other local schools will participate too. It would be great to have more people involved in the sport.”

Entries are now open on www.rungarioch.co.uk. Teams of four can also still register for the 10K Corporate Challenge. There are also places remaining for the CP&Co Junior Run for children aged four (who do not have to be in school) to 12.
