Portsoy small boat festival set to draw the crowds

The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival at Portsoy this weekend has built up a huge arts and crafts following over the years, but this year’s event is set to take on an added significance.

The festival, which is expected to draw more than 16,000 people on Saturday and Sunday, will be playing a key role in celebrations for the Year of Creative Scotland.

The Scottish Government initiative, a partnership led by EventScotland, VisitScotland, Creative Scotland and VOCAL, aims to put the spotlight on the country’s cultural and creative strengths.

Visitors to Portsoy will find a wide range of crafts and skills on display, from the traditional to the contemporary. The historic harbour area is popular with those interested in traditional maritime and authentic skills, such as boat restoration, knitting and weaving. A huge marquee will be set up outside the Salmon Bothy museum, containing jewellery makers, artists and even chainsaw carvers.

Tickets for the Aberdeen Asset Management event are available at www.scottishtraditionalboatfestival.org.uk An adult day ticket costs £8, children aged five to 18 and concessions are £5. Adult weekend tickets are priced at £12 and children and concessions at £8.
