The spring season of behind-the-scenes tours of His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen gets underway on Saturday. April 7.
The 75-minute-long Saturday morning tours are a big draw for local groups and organisations, as well as visitors to the city.
The spring season kicks off next month with 10.30am tours on April 7, 21 and 28, May 12, 19 and 26 and June 2, 16, 23 and 30.
On three Saturdays – April 21, April 28 and June 16 – there will be an additional second tour starting at 11.30am.
Individual tours for groups and schools can also be organised separately by contacting Aberdeen Performing Arts creative learning manager Johanna Duncan on 01224 337664 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
Enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers take visitors through His Majesty’s modern £7.8 million extension as well as the 105-year-old original building, designed by the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham. The tour explores the new and old sections of the city centre landmark, providing an opportunity to get onstage and see HMT from the eyes of a performer in one of the most beautiful theatres in Scotland.
Then it’s backstage to get a glimpse of the inner workings of a busy theatre – and pick up some inside knowledge of its spooky past.
School tours are free and public tours costs £5 (£3 concession) and can be booked through Aberdeen Box Office in person at the Music Hall or His Majesty’s Theatre or by phone on 01224 641122. They are subject to availability.
