THE UGIE Folk Club is celebrating 21 years of music in the North-east by going back to its roots for this year’s festival.

It will be returning to Longside for the event, which will run from Friday, July 27 to Sunday, July 29.

Organisers say that while offerings will be a little more “spread out” this time, they will be no less entertaining than previous festivals.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with Festival Club Night in the Longside football social club from 8pm. Long-time friend of the folk club, Gary Anderson, will be a special guest.

On Saturday, Aden Country Park Theatre is the venue for the folk club and friends concert from 1.30-3.30pm.

In the evening, the centrepiece of the festival - the Grand Concert - will be held in Crichie Village Hall starting at 7.30 (doors open 7pm).

It will include Frank Robb, who will be performing at Ugie for the first time with his eclectic mix of original songs and ad lib humour.

Sunday morning will host an original songwriting competition. Registration will begin at 11am in the Longside social club, with the competition starting at 11.30am.

The traditional “wind down” session, also in the social club, will take place from 2pm.
