ROTARIANS have presented two Young Citizen of the Year awards.

Cameron Dow was chosen for one of the awards for the outstanding contribution he makes to his community in Newburgh, and for raising funds to help Kids Klub, Kampala, Uganda. The organisation aims to bring hope to vulnerable children and to transform poor communities in the country. It currently works in 16 different centres in and around Kampala.

Cameron is swimming the equivalent miles in lengths of a swimming pool from Newburgh to Kampala, which is 4,495 miles.

The other recipient was Alan McKeitch. Alan is a volunteer with the Red Cross shop in Ellon and was nominated by assistant manager Audrey Gartly, who is also secretary of Ellon Rotary Club.

Alan was chosen by Ellon Rotarians in recognition of his personal achievements, of his commitment and demonstration of good citizenship both within the community and internationally.

The Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland RIBI Young Citizen Award, in association with the BBC News Channel, has been developed to showcase and celebrate the achievements and commitment of inspiring young people under the age of 25.

Those nominated do not have to be working on a Rotary project to be eligible for an award. What matters is that they individually, or as part of a group, have made a positive difference.
