A Blooming great effort in Kintore

Kintore is “blooming” thanks to the efforts of members of the local community who organise and maintain the towns floral displays.

Kintore residents Ainslie Reid and Jim Coutts again organised the displays and a team of enthusiastic volunteers assisted by filling the tubs and baskets with plants, many of which were once again donated by Aberdeenshire Council, while the remainder were bought from local nurseries.

Chris Norrie checked the security of the brackets on the lamp posts and assisted by hanging the baskets; planters were put in place by Kevin Gilbert; Colin Stirling supplied the plant feed and the generosity of a host of local organisations has once again made the floral displays a success.

Many volunteers are involved in the essential task of twice weekly watering, a process which is now a familiar sight on Tuesdays and Fridays with a van provided by Jim Reid Car Sales and the trailer and water carrier donated by Malcolm Allan doing the watering rounds.

A new and very conspicuous addition to the displays this year is the magnificent planter with its floral displays on the pavement outside the Kintore Arms. Ainslie has long had the ambition of acquiring such a display and this became a reality when donations from various local businesses, along with the Rotary Club and the Community Council provided financial and other support. Pictured are tose involved in the new display Brian and Gloria Johnstone, Community Council, Peter Strachan, Blacksmith, Derek Mitchell, Caledonian Logistics, Vic Mathers, VG Mathers Ltd. Others who donated but are absent from the photograph were Maxwell McDonald from C and M McDonald Car Sales, Jim Reid from Jim Reid Car Sales, Doug Smollett from Kintore Garage Door Company and Mike Byrne from Quality Services, Aberdeen which is based in Kintore Townhouse.

A big vote of thanks goes to all for their valued and varied contributions to brightening up Kintore.
