An army veteran has been reunited with his military medals that he lost after leaving them on the bonnet of his car in Ellon last weekend.

Aberdeenshire Deputy Lieutenant Mike Taitt, 72, drove away from Victoria Hall in the town last Sunday forgetting he had left his honours sitting on the front of his car.

Following a mass appeal Major Taitt was finally reunited with his medals on Wednesday after they were found by a fellow Gordon Highlander Jimmy Leask.

Major Taitt said: "I'm very grateful to Jimmy Leask for finding them.

"He picked them up, took them home and cleaned them up so they are not damaged which I am very pleased about as they could have been ran over or anything."

Major Taitt said that the "irony" of the matter was that the medals were found about 50 yards from where he lost them.
