Around the Aberdeenshire SWI meetings

Esslemont SWI president Mrs Helen Smillie opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and introduced Paula Hawthorn from New Hope Life.

She gave a talk on Kazuri beans followed by an opportunity for members to make a piece of individual jewellery.

Competition winners were: 3 Custard Creams - 1st Margaret Grieve; 2nd Linda Milne; 3rd Annie Paterson. Knitted Egg Cosy - 1st Joyce Clark; 2nd Margaret Grant-Beer; 3rd Margaret Grieve. Flower of the Month - 1st Annie Paterson; 2nd Anne Davidson; 3rd Eileen Sutherland.

After tea, Jean Winterbotton gave the vote of thanks.

The business meeting was conducted prior to Mrs Smillie closing the meeting.

Tipperty SWI president Mrs Lorna Strachan welcomed members and also speaker Eleanor Forbes, from Aberdeen Street Pastors.

After the usual business was concluded Eleanor provided the group with an interesting and informative talk, video and slide show on the varied roles carried out by volunteers of Aberdeen Street Pastors.

Mrs Forbes gave the whole group an insight into what it takes to become a volunteer.

She then judged the competitions as follows: Toffee Apple - 1 Andrea Elrick-Stewart; 2 Isobel Elrick; 3 Lorna Strachan. Halloween Decoration - 1 Joyce Catto; 2 Isobel Elrick; 3 Andrea Elrick-Stewart.

The vote of thanks was given by Mrs Lorna Strachan. Members were reminded that the Bingo Night will be on October 28 at 7pm in the Royal British Legion, Ellon. The next meeting on November 12 will be our birthday party with entertainment from Ythan Fiddlers.
