Aberdeenshire’s most inspirational young people and community groups have been recognised for their talents and service at an annual awards ceremony.

Now in its third year, Inspiring Aberdeenshire was held at Haddo House last Thursday.

There were fourteen award categories including ‘Best of’ for Banff & Buchan, Buchan, Formartine, Garioch, Kincardine & Mearns, and Marr.

The Formartine winner was Keith Hart, secretary of the Victoria Hall management committee in Ellon.

Keith was described as “the unsung hero behind the growing Ellon community spirit and recognising his efforts will inspire other volunteers within Aberdeenshire to promote their local historic venues to bring the community together and make their area a lovely, lively place.”

The runners-up in the Formartine category were Pitmedden Youth Café Leadership Team and Penny Shepherd, Meldrum Academy Duke of Edinburgh Award co-ordinator.

Aberdeenshire Provost Hamish Vernal said: “We have heard from Aberdeenshire school pupils who have the brightest of futures ahead of them, from community leaders who continually inspire others to achieve their potential and from employees who put their all into their roles to go not just an extra mile, but miles and miles above and beyond their duties.

“This event gives us all an opportunity to meet those who put their hearts and souls into not only the things they are good at, but also those who are smashing down the barriers life so often throws up in front of us.”
