An Inverurie salon has won a top environmental honour at the North-east’s leading business awards ceremony, its 16th award in two years.
Élan Hair Design clinched the Green Award at this year’s Northern Star Business Awards.
Organised by the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, the glittering ceremony and dinner was held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Believed to be the UK’s most eco-friendly hair salon, Élan was also nominated for the same accolade in both 2012 and 2013 but was successful at the third attempt.
The latest accolade means Élan’s innovative green solution has won 16 awards, having been shortlisted for a total of 51 accolades to date.
Husband and wife Lorna and Gordon Milton run Élan Hair Design with their daughters Lanice and Lauren. The business, which currently has a team of 15, was established more than 40 years ago.
Lorna Milton said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award having made the decision to become the UK’s most sustainable hair salon. This is a fantastic achievement for a small business such as Élan, especially when we were faced with such tough competition.
“We couldn’t have made it this far without the support of our staff and customers who have really embraced the changes we have already made to the business, and are continuing to do so.
“It’s been a remarkable year for Élan with the business continuing to benefit from the wide range of green initiatives we have put in place, while we’re still actively exploring ways in which we can further improve the environmental performance of the salon.”
