Balmedie groups seek new volunteers

BALMEDIE’S voluntary bodies are holding a special event on Saturday with a view to getting more people involved.

The Open Day - run in conjunction by groups including Better Balmedie, the Christmas Lights Group, Belhelvie Banter, Balmedie House, the local library, Tarts and Crafts and the Community Council - will take place on March 24 between 9.30am and 12.30pm at the Balmedie Leisure Centre.

The objective of the day’s activities is to highlight the good work done by voluntary bodies in the area, and encourage residents to take a more active part in community activities.

Aberdeenshire Community Planning officer Mark Mitchell told the Times that the groups in question made a huge contribution to the standard of living in the region, and that they were keen to welcome new members.

He said: “Volunteering in your community is very much based on the time commitment you can offer; no matter how much or how little time you can offer, your local community groups will be happy to look at how you can become involved. Support, advice and guidance will be available for anyone looking to volunteer and every effort given to ensure barriers are not in place to prevent you from volunteering.”

The day’s events are free, and will include activities for children, teas and refreshments. The groups will showcase their work, as well as offering advice on how to get involved.
