A church in Aberdeenshire raised almost £7,000 for their Christmas Appeal 2014.

Belhelvie Parish Church decided to organised their Right Christmas Appeal for a local benefit this year.

The church raised a staggering £6,739.25 which was shared between their own Development Fund and The ARCHIE Foundation Play Service.

Arthur Nicolson of the church said that they were ‘certainly very surprised’ to have raised such a large amount.

He told the Times: “Only once in eight years have we bettered this sum and that was in our very first Appeal.

“Our target was £4,000 but with a week to go it wasn’t looking as though we’d make our target hence the feelings of surprise when we discovered the final total.”

The church raised the funds by holding various events including the Women’s Group - Belhelvie Bake Off, A Christmas Quiz Night, Social Committee - Christmas Fayre, Guild - Cook Book, Young People - Christmas Card Postal Service and Babysitting, Choir - Carol Singing, A Cake Auction, Donations from the Golden Zumba Group, Friendship Club, Sunday Night Dancing Group and many other Personal Donations.
