Ellon’s Better Read Books has a busy programme of events this month.

On Friday, August 15, between 7-9pm there will be an Open Mic Poetry evening when all are welcome to come along and contribute with a favourite poem, or their own poetry, or just appreciate.

The centenary of the commencement of the Great War will be marked by devoting a portion of the first half of the evening to the memory of those who served- and the remainder of the session to a more light-hearted view of the world as they would have expected us to do.

On Friday, August 29, from 7-9pm there is a Pop Up event on behalf of Pushing Out the Boat - the North-east’s magazine of new writing and visual arts.

Activities are planned to coincide with the opening of submissions for Issue 13 of the magazine and to continue that support through to October.

POTB is not a money-raising enterprise - although magazines will be available for sale during the events - but the opportunity to raise the profile within some local communities and encourage submissions.

Those attending will have the opportunity to meet team members and ask questions regarding submissions.
