An URGENT appeal to keep open Methlick Parish Church’s Friday morning cafe has been successful.

Cafe in the Kirk has been run for more than eight years by Margaret McHardy, but she is moving to Burntisland in Fife. When news of Margaret’s departure was announced, a plea was made to a local volunteer, or volunteers, to take on the popular tea shop.

Now local woman Wilma Dalton has agreed to take on the running of the cafe, with the support of a rota of volunteers.

The Friday cafe started in January, 2004. There is a separate tea shop which is open on a Wednesday.

Margaret finished at the cafe last month and she provided most of the baking, while other volunteers also helped out. Her speciality became known as “Margaret’s Marvellous Scones”.

She started the tea shop as a way of getting local people to meet each other over a friendly cup of tea.

The cafe is free but patrons are invited to make a donation before they leave.

Church elder Val Mitchell said they were delighted to have someone in place.

She added: “It means the cafe will continue which is important for the village.

“Wilma is taking it on but will have the support of a rota of volunteers for the baking.”

The Friday cafe is open from 10am until 11.30am.
