Bus driver bids farewell

Ellon bus users bid farewell to a popular driver on Saturday. Jim McCue ended a year at the wheel of the 65 Stagecoach town service.

Mr McCue, from Peterhead, admitted to being a little emotional about having to call time on a route being merged with an Aberdeen service.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed driving in and around Ellon. People have been so friendly. It has been great fun and I have made many friends over the year.”

The route includes Esslemont, Meilkemill, Ness Circle, Knockocothie and the Ellon Park and Ride.

Trish Somerville, a regular passenger, said: “Jim has been just marvellous. We are losing not only a friend, but a reliable, efficient bus service. I just hope that Stagecoach will think again, and bring the 65 bus back.

“I just can’t see how the merger with the 62 service will be half as good”

Stagecoach, who operate the route, have promised to review the merger arrangements should they encounter operational problems.
