Ellon farmers’ champion effort at Thainstone show

Ellon father and son, George and Melvin Stuart took the top honours at the Aberdeen & Northern Marts annual Texel lambs show and sale at the Thainstone Centre.

The pair, who farm at Milton of Birness, had the overall champion, two first prizes and a third prize in the event, which was in conjunction with the North of Scotland Texel sheep Club and sponsored by Towns and Carnie.

Judge Katrina Farquhar selected as the overall champion, a pair of 49kg class winning heavy pure Texels. They later sold for £190 each to Backmuir Trading, Keith.

The reserve champion was a pair of 41kg Texel crosses from W & J Brown, Hilton of Culsh, New Deer, which sold for £130 each to the judge, on behalf of Braemar butcher

Prize list included : Pair of light pure bred Texels: 1st - W Willox, Home Farm Druminior 43kg, £101; 2nd - I & H Anderson, Newton of Carnousie 43kg £106; 3rd - S Greig, Sunnybrae Lodge, Blackhills 43kg £99.50.
