IF YOU feel like your home is lacking in character or would like a centre piece that catches the eye, the answer could lie in Mintlaw.
Janet Warrander has recently started selling a range of unique, bespoke and different furniture pieces at Mintlaw Hall.
Each piece of furniture on sale is either recycled or upcycled and restored to great quality after going through repair and given a little bit of TLC.
Janet works in partnership with her husband Robert to ensure each piece looks as good as new and ready to find a new home.
Speaking to the Buchanie, Janet said: “My husband works so hard, he fixes anything that is broken and he even takes different bits and bobs and creates his own coat hooks which we then sell. There is a lot of teamwork!”
The furniture is sourced locally as Janet explained: “I go to a lot of auctions, different sales and even Peterhead Projects. I aim to get as much as I can and keep it as local as possible.
“I learnt how to make my own chalk paint and beeswax and I use that to decorate the furniture.
“I also re-upholster some of the smaller pieces like foot and kitchen stools using a range of fabrics which customers can choose from. I undertake commissions as well so customers can get exactly what they want.”
Furniture isn’t the only thing Janet sells as she also rescues old teddy bears, washes them and knits them their own little jumper.
Janet said: “I feel so sorry for them being thrown away, especially if they are pretty grubby looking so I clean them and hope someone will love them.”
Janet’s furniture will be available to view at Mintlaw Village Hall every second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month from 1pm to 3.30pm. Orders can also be taken.
