A local estate owner has been presented with a special commendation at a prestigious environmental awards ceremony, for what was described as their ‘exceptional environmental performance and management’ in enhancing the local landscape.
M Bruce & Partners Ltd of Logie Estate near Ellon were presented with their award at the 2011 Vision In Business for the Environment Scotland (VIBES) Awards. The awards, which are backed by SEPA, the Scottish Government, Zero Waste Scotland and Environmental Protection UK, are competed for annually by businesses throughout Scotland.
The estate has embarked on an environmental improvement project in recent years, with organic conversion and the planting of native broad leaf trees and hedgerows, river improvements, dry stone dyke building, wildlife protection and wind turbine installations.
“We’re delighted to have had our efforts acknowledged through this prestigious award”, said Commercial Manager Alex Fleming. “Our other business interests include the provision of serviced plots at our business parks around Aberdeenshire, letting of our commercial and residential properties and fishing on the River Ythan.
“All of our environmental projects are an important part of our business structure and have all been successful. This is helped by the fact that they have been implemented not solely for financial reasons, but because our company feels passionately about the local environment and how our farming actions impact on the local area. This ethos stems from our Chairman’s simple philosophy of leaving a place in a better state than you found it!”
