Permission for two small supermarkets in Kintore have been approved by the Garioch Area Committee.
As was previously reported in the Herald, Sainsbury’s have plans to open a “Sainsbury’s Local” in the town, and will locate at a new site comprising four retail units at Midmill following the demolition of existing buildings on the site.
The second supermarket will be at a new site on School Road. It is unclear at the moment who the new operator will be.
Commenting on the decision East Garioch councillor Martin Ford said, “I was pleased to support these two applications for new shops in Kintore, and very pleased the Area Committee agreed both applications unanimously.
“Both applications were for sites the Council has previously agreed as being suitable for retail. Both are well located within the town. Both are also close to expected future housing sites.
Local Liberal Democrat Christine Jardine said,”eople in Kintore will now have the option to stay in the town to do their shopping rather than travel elsewhere, even into the city. That surely is good news for shoppers and other outlets in Kintore who can benefit from the increased footfall.”
