A PRECISION engineering company began a new chapter of its 108 year history on Monday, as the first 80 staff moved into its new purpose-built Ellon headquarters.

Power Jacks, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of precision lifting, power transmission and mechanical jacking equipment, is in the process of completing its move from Fraserburgh, The opening of the facility on the 3.25 acre Balmacassie site is the result of what the company describes as many months of hard work and application.

Managing Director Bruce Bultitude spoke to the Ellon Times in advance of the opening. “We are of course sad to be moving away from Fraserburgh, where our company has such long-standing and deep-rooted connections”, he said. “As a progressive, forward-looking enterprise, we had to create a new complex that would allow us to enhance our operational capabilities for our customers around the world – and we have done so at Balmacassie.

“Our new geographical location will also, crucially, give us access to new skills pools, helping us to overcome the recruitment issues we have faced in recent years.

“Having said that, it is fantastic that all of our Fraserburgh personnel will remain part of the Power Jacks success story by continuing with us. Collectively, we’ve got hundreds of years of experience on the staff.”

Paying tribute to the staff who had made the move possible, he continued “These are exciting times for everyone associated with Power Jacks. I look forward to engaging with as many of our stakeholders as possible – staff, customers, distributors and suppliers – over the coming months to ensure we can all enjoy the greatest possible benefits from this new era.”

The new Ellon facility consists of a 40,000 sq ft manufacturing and assembly facility with associated warehousing, and 10,000 sq ft of office space to accommodate the design and production engineering, sales, marketing and administration functions.

“The facility is purpose built to our own specifications”, he said. “We wanted a high-tech building to reflect the nature of the company’s business, which could together the office and production staff on the 3.5 acre site. We’re delighted to be moving into Ellon and look forward to playing a full role in the life of the community”.
