AN ELLON councillor has welcomed news that important work is to be undertaken to improve the standard of the town’s Balmacassie Industrial Estate.

Owners of the estate, Bruce and Partners, have hired David Smith Contractors to perform maintenance on the roads - which at present are severely potholed, particularly on the road leading up into the estate from Tesco.

Cllr Gillian Owen, who has fought an ongoing campaign for improvements to roads in the area, said that the development was welcome, and that the improvements to the roads in question were much needed. She also pointed out that it was in the council’s best interests for roads to be in a reasonable condition at the point where they are adopted.

In communications with Cllr Owen, Allan Whyte, Head of Properties and Facilities Management for the council’s infrastructure services, said: “The works will be starting in the new year.”

Speaking to the Times, Cllr Owen said: “I’m delighted with this announcement - it’s a long awaited improvement!”
