DONALD Trump’s new Aberdeenshire golf course has triggered international interest among players..

It has been confirmed that more than 8,000 visitors from 20 countries booked to play the Menie Estate links in its opening month.

The billionaire officialy launched his £100 million course to rave reviews and resort boss Sarah Malone has described interest in the first four weeks as “phenomenal”.She said that visitors had been arriving from around the world and that feedback had been “incredible.”

Miss Malone added that their phone lines had been jammed since the launch with the public and tour operators taking advantage of their introductory rates.

The surge in demand has been welcomed by Scotland’s tourism bosses.

They said the initial figures were extremely encouraging for the course, for the area and for reinforcing Scotland’s reputation as the home of golf.

The Menie course was officialy opened early last month with former Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie and senior PGA and European tour officials at the launch.

There was a strong hint that the course would be in line for a prestigious torunament at some stage in the future.
