Emergency teams were called to a road accident involving a tractor and a car on the outskirts of Ellon on Monday morning.

The tractor overturned and spilled a quantity of weedkiller on the A920 Ellon-Pitmedden road.

It happened around 10am near the Mains of Mosstown turn-off, just outside the town.

The road was closed for more than two hours while crews cleared up the spillage of weedkiller.

The black Mercedes sustained severe damage to the bonnet. An ambulance and paramedics were on scene, and one casualty was checked over but did not require hospital treatment.

Zoe Sadler, from Ellon, was travelling to Insch with her four children when she saw the tractor topple over.

She said: “I was driving down the hill and I saw something on the road go over and wondered what on earth it was.

“It all seemed to happen in slow motion.

“As soon as it happened myself and the driver in front of me went to see if everyone was alright.

“I wondered what I could do to help”

Two fire units from Ellon were called in and a specialist environmental unit from Aberdeen to deal with the chemical spill.

A forklift vehicle was used to lift the tractor, which had lost a wheel.

Meanwhile, last Friday, emergency services attended an incident at the River Ythan in the centre of Ellon.

It followed reports of a woman in the water, east of the old bridge.

Police, fire and ambulance units were at the scene at lunchtime.

A woman was brought to safety and assisted along the riverbank by fire teams before being taken to hospital.

She was described as “safe and well” following the incident.
