Garioch Sports Centre coach Mark Wylie BEM, received his medal at a ceremony in Aberdeenshire on Saturday (April 18).

Mark, originally from Shetland, but who now lives in Oldmeldrum, was presented with his British Empire Medal by the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire James Ingleby.

As was reported in the Herald earlier this year, Mark received the award in the New Year’s Honours for “services to sport in the Shetland Isles and charity work abroad.” He was the only person in Aberdeenshire to be awarded the BEM in her majesty the Queens 2015 New Years honours list.

Mark played a large part in founding local Trampolining and Gymnastics clubs in Shetland as well as Inferno Dance and developed a large programme of pre school activities at the Clickimin Leisure Complex where he worked for almost 30 years.
