A community initiative is helping an Aberdeenshire village realise its potential.
Newburgh recently held its first gala in more than 20 years after a campaign to bring the community to life was launched last year.
Wake up Newburgh was the idea of a former community education worker, which resulted in three groups being formed to take the village forward.
One is the gala committee and the others are Nicer Newburgh, who improve the environment, and a water sports group who flourish in the estuary.
Duncan Milne, chairman of Foceran Community Council, has been active in supporting all three groups.
He said: “We took the view that we would benefit most from talking to individuals to see how we might best go forward.
“It has paid off, these three groups will now go from strength to strength, of that I’m sure.”
Nicer Newburgh has been spreading its wings of late, liaising with Ellon’s Civic Pride committee who themselves were inspired by contact with an Alness environmental organisation.
The gala day was rated a great success, despite the steady rain which lasted most of the day.
