An Ellon councillor has asked Police Scotland to monitor the Ellon bypass (A948) following concerns about increasing speeds.

Gillian Owen says the road is a “cause for concern” for local residents, however speed checks carried out show that the results are acceptable.

She added: “Last year I asked if the Council could put the Flashing Speed Sign along the A948.

“Coming out of Knockothie Crescent, at either end, you can take your life in your hands, some drivers do tend to speed along that stretch.

“There have been a number of accidents and even more near misses.”

Gillian continued: “It is essential that the concerns of residents are put forward and I am keen that this road be monitored.

“Over the last few years the Business Park has continued to thrive and more businesses have set up offices which inevitably means more workers and vehicles.

“New developments are expected on the other side of the road which will ultimately mean traffic crossing the road as well and naturally the whole area will change.”

She concluded: “I still maintain this road would benefit from a reduced speed but the Service given stats do not agree with me. I don’t agree with their analysis and I will still ask for this work to be carried out, as I believe this road should be monitored and have asked Inspector Harrison to do just that.”
