WEST Garioch local councillors, and Aberdeenshire Alliance members Patricia Oddie and Sheena Lonchay, who is also Garioch Area Chair, have welcomed plans submitted for large investments in West Garioch.

Councillors Oddie, Lonchay and fellow West Garioch councillor Allison Grant welcome the ambitious plans, which include £75,000, for the Bennachie Leisure Centre, Insch, to replace an all weather pitch, part of a much larger project for the sports centre and £15,000 invested into St Lawrence Hall, Old Rayne. If both projects are approved the money will enable the hall committee to go ahead with an urgently required upgrade programme. “Hall’s are vital to the lifeblood of our rural villages. St Lawrence Hall is a Community Hall in its purest form,” said newly elected Cllr Patricia Oddie after the application was submitted.

Plans will go before the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee this week.

The investment is part of a wider £3 million package aimed at towns and villages across the region to create better places to live and work.

The projects have been selected by identifying community needs and priorities with a major target being sustainable improvement to peoples’ day to day lives.
