A SPECIAL prayer service has been held in Aberdeen to mark the second anniversary of a fatal North Sea helicopter accident.
The crash, which saw sixteen men lose their lives, happened on April 1, 2009 11 miles north-east of Peterhead, as the men returned to shore. A probe by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch found that the Super Puma helicopter came down following a catastrophic gearbox failure.
During the service, which took place last Friday in Aberdeen’s Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting, the names of the victims - many of whom lived in the North East - were read out.
The service was led by the Rev Martin Grashoff, chaplain to the oil industry, who took up his post in March following the death in September of the Rev Andrew John Jolly.
