Vandalised play equipment in Ellon will be replaced, local councillors have been assured.

There was strong condemnation of damage caused to Auchterellon park last month.

Several wooden frames were broken on equipment only installed last year after fund-raising by the school and parent council.

Formartine Area Committee heard last week it was the second time that equipment had been vandalised at Auchterellon.

Repairs are included in the local authority budget and the frames will be replaced with hardwood at no extra cost to the council.

Councillor Gillian Owen, who was among those angry at the damage caused to the playpark, welcomed the news.

She said after the meeting: “It is an excellent result for the children and families that use the Auchterellon playpark.

“I really do hope this time the equipment will be respected and not vandalised again, as this just ruins it for everyone else.”

The vandalism occurred during the Easter school holidays and police foot patrols were stepped up around the town’s playparrks following the incident.
