Concerned Ellon residents contacted a local councillor to report a spate of vandalism in Gordon Park on Monday morning.

They were shocked to discover that a large number of newly planted shrubs and trees had been uprooted and thrown around.

They also noted that a number of trees had their tops cut off.

The residents expressed their concerns to Gillian Owen who believed this to be the most serious case of vandalism at the park.

Cllr Owen said: “I visited Gordon Park to see for myself, and I couldn’t believe the wanton destruction, it is unbelievable.

“Such behaviour is unwarranted and is totally unacceptable in a civilised society.

“I have contacted the Police and hope that the culprits are found and suitably punished.”

She adde:, “On the Wednesday, May 11, locals had an opportunity to attend the Green Spaces Forum which was held at the Academy, although the attendance was disappointing Brian Shand gave those that attended an interesting and informative resume of what was happening in the green spaces around Ellon.

“His innovative approach will assist when it comes to biodiversity and should be welcomed.”
