The 2017 Collieston Gala has been hailed as a huge success by organisers.
Crowds flocked to the beach on Saturday, July 29 to take part in the Gala fun.
One of the organisers, Sally Sheehan, said: “Saturday was a beautiful day to be at the seaside. Collieston is very much a traditional affair with home-spun entertainment and stalls and that seems to be part of its success.”
There was a packed and varied programme over the week including the annual Boules competition, the ever popular Quiz and Disco, and a Ceilidh at the end of Gala Day.
As well as the usual stalls and activities, Collieston Offshore Rowing Team along with a team from Cullen provided excitement on the water with demonstrations, tug of war and a chance for people to take an oar and have a go themselves.
Children had their own Boules competition, Fancy Dress and Sandcastle compeition, plus a chance to ride a rodeo bull at the Wild West night.
A church service was held the following morning.
The Resource Centre’s drama group Freeze Company performed ‘Forvie’s Curse’ on the run-up to the Gala day.
Sally added: “The initial count shows profit after all expenses to be around the £4,000 mark for the community, with a further £500 raised for the pier.
“The Community Council would like to thank the many people who helped, supported and contributed to this year’s success.
“Particular thanks must go to Ellon Round Table and Smugglers Cone for sponsoring and running Gala day activities.”
Ellon Round Table members were in charge of the barbecue, raising £711 for the Collieston community.
